Readout of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dunford's Meeting with Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff Adm. Evangelos Apostolakis

WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. met today with Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff Adm. Evangelos Apostolakis in Athens, Greece.

The two leaders discussed mutual items of interest, to include the security environment in the Mediterranean region. Gen. Dunford thanked his Greek counterpart for Greece’s strong support in hosting U.S. military forces, in particular at locations such as Naval Support Activity Souda Bay, and for exploring other possibilities to expand bilateral cooperation.

 As NATO allies, the United States and Greece enjoy a long-standing friendship and partnership rooted in our shared democratic values and strong cultural ties.
