Major General Frederick S. Rudesheim reported as the Vice Director of the Joint Staff on 1 July 2013.
He served as the commander of 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division (Mech.) deploying to Iraq from April 2003 to March 2004. He also served as deputy commanding general-support of the 1st Cavalry Division and Multi-National Division-Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2009 to January 2010. Most recently, he served as the Commander, United States Army – South at Fort Sam Houston, TX.
His previous joint assignments include a tour with U.S. Joint Forces – Korea; Director of Joint Capability Development at US Joint Forces Command; and two tours with the Joint Staff, one as a Division Chief, then later a Deputy Director, in the J5 and the second as the Deputy Director, J7, Joint and Coalition Warfare in Suffolk, Virginia.
MG Rudesheim was commissioned a distinguished military graduate in May 1981 from the University of Texas.
His awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal w/OLC and "V" device, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. He has earned the Combat Infantryman, Expert Infantryman, Parachutist and Air Assault identification badges and is Ranger qualified.
