Major General Phillip N. Frietze is currently serving as the Vice Director for Logistics, J-4, The Joint Staff.
He hails from Las Cruces, New Mexico, is a graduate of New Mexico State University, was commissioned through the Officer Candidate Course Program in August 1991 and assigned as a Combat Engineer. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Engineer Officer’s Advanced Course, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Joint Forces Staff College, Defense Language Institute, the Argentine Ministry of Defense War College, Harvard Kennedy School (Cybersecurity), LOGTECH Executive Program Chapel Hill, NC, the U.S. Navy Strategic Thinking Darden School of Business UVA, and is a Regional Area Officer for South America.
His service spans all elements of the Marine Air Ground Task Force, with command and staff assignments at all levels.
Command time with the Fleet Marine Force includes Marine Wing Support Squadron-374; Marine Wing Support Group-37; Inspector-Instructor, C Company, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division; 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3d Force Service Support Group; Commanding Officer, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group; Commanding Officer, Headquarters Regiment, 1st Marine Logistics Group; Commander, U.S. Marine Forces South and Commanding General, 1st Marine Logistics Group.
Staff assignments include serving as the Assistant Operations and Plans Officer, Marine Wing Support Group-37, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing; Facilities Engineers, Marine Corps Base Okinawa, Japan; Executive Officer, Combat Logistics Battalion-22, 2d Marine Logistics Group; G3 Operations Officer, 2d Marine Logistics Group; G4 Engineer Officer, II Marine Expeditionary Force; Executive Officer, Combat Logistic Regiment-15, 1st Marine Logistics Group; Branch Head for Engineering and Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Deputy Commandant Installation and Logistics; G3 Operations Officer, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Deputy Director, Capabilities Development Directorate, Deputy Commandant, Combat Development and Integration, and Deputy Commanding General, Marine Corps Combat Development Command.
