Mission

To provide the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff manpower and personnel counsel and support in order to develop best military advice to national decision makers and provide strategic direction to the Joint Force, enabling global integration to achieve maximum comprehensive Joint Force readiness.

About J1

The Manpower and Personnel Directorate fosters highly effective communication, cooperation and collaboration within the J1, Joint Staff directorates, OSD, Services, and Combatant Commands to develop globally integrated solutions to joint manpower and personnel challenges. 

Additionally, the Directorate ensures comprehensive Joint Force readiness to meet warfighting requirements, today and in the future, by monitoring, identifying, and predicting joint manpower and personnel challenges, validating Joint Force requirements, and informing the resource prioritization, identification and allocation process.

The Directorate also facilitates optimum Joint Staff organization and obtains, distributes, and sustains highly qualified personnel to support the Chairman and the Joint Force.
