Readout of Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff meeting with Jónas G. Allansson, Iceland Chief of Defence

Vice Chairman Spokesperson Major Joshua J. Pena provided the following readout:

General Christopher J. Mahoney, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with Jónas G. Allansson, Iceland Chief of Defence, to reinforce the strategic partnership between our two nations at the Pentagon, 10 March 2026. The leaders discussed the importance of Iceland’s critical role in the Arctic and the need for increased allied burden-sharing to counter malign influence and ensure regional security.

Both leaders agreed to focus on defense and critical infrastructure essential for deterring competitors and upholding a peaceful, stable Arctic. The close defense cooperation between the United States and Iceland provides a distinct strategic advantage that underpins the strength of the NATO alliance and our collective security.
