WASHINGTON--Statement from Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. on the Passing of Andrew W. Marshall:
"On behalf of all U.S. military men and women serving in uniform around the world, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Paul Selva and I extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of DoD pioneer and visionary Andrew Marshall on the occasion of his passing. As our nation returns to an era of great power competition, we can take comfort in the knowledge that Andy's brilliant leadership of the DoD Office of Net Assessment for more than 40 years paved the way for how the Defense Department assesses the strategic environment and seeks to preserve the competitive advantage of the U.S. military. Truly an institution, he was a selfless public servant who drove the Department to ask hard questions and make the tough decisions necessary to keep our nation secure. We salute his lifetime of service and honor his incredible legacy."
