WASHINGTON--Statement from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. on the confirmation of Vice Adm. Mike Gilday:

"On behalf of the entire Joint Staff team, congratulations and Bravo Zulu to Vice Adm. Mike Gilday on his Senate confirmation to serve at the rank of admiral and as the next chief of naval operations. He is an outstanding naval officer and leader with deep operational experience and a proven track record of performance throughout his decades of military service. I have no doubt that our Sailors and their families serving worldwide will greatly benefit from his exceptional leadership, bold vision, and commitment to Navy core values. I thank him and his family for their continued service to our nation and the Joint Force."
