WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Dave Butler provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley spoke with Canadian Armed Forces Chief of Defence Admiral Art McDonald today by video teleconference. This is the first official interaction between both chiefs of defense since Admiral McDonald took command on January 14, 2021.
The two leaders discussed areas of mutual concern including global operations, modernization of the armed forces, the impacts of COVID-19, and each country’s defense forces’ support to civilian authority in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
The U.S.-Canada bilateral defense relationship is one of the world’s closest, and both leaders remain committed to continuing cooperation and addressing the challenges facing our regional and global partners.
