HELSINKI — Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Dave Butler provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley met today with the Republic of Finland’s President Sauli Niinistö, Minister of Defence Antti Kaikkonen, and Chief of Defence Gen. Timo Kivinen.
They discussed European security issues in light of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, and the strong and enduring U.S.-Finland defense partnership. The Chairman reiterated the United States’ strong support for Finland’s application for NATO membership, noting that Finland’s accession to the Alliance will strengthen U.S. and Euro-Atlantic security.
