WASHINGTON, D.C. — Joint Staff Spokesperson Navy Capt. Jereal Dorsey provided the following readout:
Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Christopher Grady met with Swedish Minister for Defence Pål Jonson, State Secretary to Minister for Defence Peter Sandwall, Swedish Chief of Defence General Michael Claesson, and other Swedish leaders today in Stockholm, Sweden, to discuss regional stability, military collaboration, Sweden’s integration into NATO, and transatlantic security cooperation.
During their discussions, Adm. Grady lauded Sweden’s historic accession to NATO, recognizing it as a major milestone that enhances collective defense at a critical time. He commended Sweden’s strong bilateral ties with the U.S., highlighting the robust economic relationship and deep defense collaboration between the two nations.
Leaders reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening security cooperation, supporting joint operations in the Baltic Sea, and reinforcing NATO’s collective defense posture. They also emphasized Sweden’s commitment to military interoperability, citing its active participation in multinational exercises like DEFENDER 25 and BALTOPS — which enhances operational readiness and reinforces security in the Atlantic and Baltic regions.
Additionally, the leaders shared a commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and to ensuring a secure and stable Euro-Atlantic area.
