WASHINGTON, D.C. — Joint Staff Spokesperson Air Force Col. Robert Firman provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Caine, spoke with France’s Chief of the Defence Staff, Gen. Thierry Burkhard, on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025.
During the meeting, Gen. Caine and Gen. Burkhard discussed regional security in the Middle East, Europe taking the lead in European security, and France’s defense spending plans to meet NATO goals; France committed 5% of their GDP to defense spending at the NATO summit.
France is America’s oldest ally and one of our most willing and capable partners. We share common values and benefit from a significant alignment of interests on a broad range of regional and global issues.
The staunch military alliance between the U.S. and France is crucial to global stability and security.
