Correction to the record

WASHINGTON--A story posted online today by a U.S. media outlet incorrectly reported that Gen. Dunford told his Turkish counterpart during meetings in Ankara yesterday that U.S. observations posts in Syria would remain in place indefinitely. 

This is inaccurate as Gen. Dunford did not say this during his meetings yesterday with Turkish defense officials, which were positive and constructive conversations to implement the direction of their respective presidents. 

The reporting error stems from the media outlet's inadvertent use of a previous Joint Staff media advisory released Dec. 13, 2018 instead of the following current readout from yesterday's meetings in Ankara:
