WASHINGTON-Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. met with Papua New Guinea Chief of Defense Force Brig. Gen. Gilbert Toropo today in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen the military-to-military relationship between the U.S. and Papua New Guinea and the U.S. Department of Defense’s plans to provide in-shore and harbor security in support of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Leader’s Week to be held in Port Moresby in November.  The two leaders also discussed avenues to improve capabilities and interoperability between the U.S. and Papua New Guinea militaries, as well as other items of mutual interest.


Papua New Guinea is a valued partner in the South Pacific region.
