WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. met today with Chief of Staff, Joint Staff, Japan Self-Defense Forces, Adm. Katsutoshi Kawano in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The two leaders discussed the current security environment in the Pacific region, exercise participation and opportunities to improve interoperability. Gen. Dunford also thanked Adm. Kawano for his commitment to the U.S.-Japan alliance.
The alliance between the United States and Japan remains the cornerstone of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
