WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. met today with Turkish Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar in Halifax, Canada.
The two leaders discussed security and stability in Manbij and the situation in northeast Syria. Gen. Dunford reiterated the U.S. commitment to Turkey’s security. They also discussed their continued counter-terrorism efforts to ensure the lasting defeat of ISIS.
The U.S. and Turkey enjoy a strong and continuous military-to-military relationship as key members of the NATO alliance.
