WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. met with his counterpart Indonesian Chief of Defense Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto in Washington D.C on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
The two senior military leaders discussed a range of issues, including ways to enhance the military-to-military relationship through exercises and expanded security cooperation. Gen. Dunford also offered his condolences on several recent tragic events, to include the Lion Air Boeing 737 crash, an earthquake and tsunami that devastated Indonesia, and the killing of the Indonesian construction workers in Papuan.
The U.S.-Indonesia relationship provides an important stabilizing presence in the Indo-Pacific region. The U.S. remains committed to supporting Indonesia's role in advancing regional security and prosperity in Southeast Asia, ASEAN, and the Asia Pacific.
