WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. met with his counterpart Chief of the Turkish General Staff Gen. Yasar Guler Jan. 16 in Brussels, Belgium.
The two leaders continued their ongoing discussion about the security situation in Syria, the full implementation of the Manbij roadmap, the withdrawal of U.S. ground forces from Syria in a deliberate and coordinated manner, and efforts to implement the directions of their respective presidents. The two generals also discussed the importance of continued U.S.-Turkish cooperation on counterterrorism efforts to ensure the lasting defeat of ISIS.
The U.S. and Turkey enjoy a strong and continuous military-to-military relationship as key members of the NATO alliance.
Gen. Dunford was in Brussels to participate in the NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defense Session, held Jan. 15-16 at NATO Headquarters.
