WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:
       
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. met with Republic of Korea Minister of National Defense Jeong Kyeong-doo today in Washington D.C. During an Armed Forces full honor arrival ceremony on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in honor of the Republic of Korea's Minister of Defense, Gen. Dunford thanked Minister Jeong for his meritorious service and leadership during his tenure as Chairman of the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff, which contributed greatly to the strength of the U.S. and Republic of Korea alliance. 

During Minister Jeong's visit, the two leaders discussed the current security environment around the Korean Peninsula. They committed to continuing close cooperation as allies and to maintaining close coordination on mutual security issues of interest.

In addition, Gen. Dunford presented Minister Jeong with the Legion of Merit for his vision, inspiring leadership and diplomatic skills, which have contributed to maintaining security and stability on the Korean peninsula. His military expertise and insights have also helped facilitate the successful resolution of many issues during a dynamic and critical period in the United States and Republic of Korea.

The United States - Republic of Korea alliance is a lynchpin of stability and security in Northeast Asia.
