WASHINGTON — Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Dave Butler provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley spoke with incoming French Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Thierry Burkhard today by phone.
The Chairman completed an introductory conversation with Gen. Burkhard, and the two leaders discussed the restructuring of French forces in Africa’s Sahel region.
The long-standing alliance between the U.S. and French militaries plays a critical role in maintaining peace and stability in Europe and other regions around the world.
