HELSINKI — Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. David Butler provided the following readout:

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley met with Chief of Russian General Staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov on September 22 in Helsinki.

The meeting was a continuation of talks aimed at improving military leadership communication between the two nations for the purposes of risk reduction and operational de-confliction.

In accordance with past practice, both have agreed to keep the specific details of their conversation private.
