WASHINGTON — Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Dave Butler provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley met with Chief of the Indian Defence Force Gen. Bipin Rawat today in Washington, D.C.
Gen. and Mrs. Milley welcomed the Chief of the Indian Defense Force Gen. Rawat during an Armed Forces full honor arrival ceremony on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. There, Gen. Milley thanked Gen. Rawat for his meritorious service and leadership, which has contributed greatly to the strength of the U.S. and India partnership. Additionally, Gen. Rawat laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as part of his official visit.
Gen. Milley and Gen. Rawat later met at the Pentagon, where the two military leaders discussed a range of issues, including ways to ensure regional security and their respective roles as principal military advisors to civilian leadership. The two leaders agreed to continued cooperation in training exercises and creating more opportunities to increase interoperability between the two militaries.
The U.S. and India share a strong military-to-military relationship under the U.S.-India Major Defense Partnership, which supports a free and open Indo-Pacific.
