WASHINGTON — Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Dave Butler provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley spoke with Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Valery Zaluzhny today by telephone.
The military leaders continued to exchange assessments of the evolving security environment in Eastern Europe. The leaders also discussed the U.S. support to diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation, including steps taken to heighten readiness of forces so they are prepared to respond to a range of contingencies.
Ukraine is a key partner to NATO and plays a critical role in maintaining peace and stability in Europe.
