WASHINGTON — Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Dave Butler provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley spoke with Chief of Staff, Joint Staff of the Japan Self-Defense Forces General Kōji Yamazaki yesterday by phone.
The Chairman expressed support as Japan responds to the recent earthquake. The two leaders also discussed the current security environment in the Pacific and Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Both military leaders praised recent bilateral efforts to provide nonlethal defense supplies to Ukraine.
The alliance between the United States and Japan remains the cornerstone of peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region.
