Statement by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II:
“On behalf of the U.S. Joint Force, our deepest condolences are with the people and military of our close ally - the United Kingdom. We mourn the loss of their Queen and Commander in Chief of the British Armed Forces.
Britain has lost a national leader, but the world has lost a global leader - Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II served Great Britain and the world with resilience, dignity and grace.
We are saddened by the loss but thankful for her leadership. We stand close with the people of Great Britain and the British military.
Her Majesty ushered in an era of service during World War II and a global rules based order which negates tyrants and spreads prosperity.
May she rest in peace after 70 years of devoted public service to our international community.”
