WASHINGTON — Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Dave Butler provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley spoke with Chairman of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Seung-kyum Kim today by phone to address the threats posed by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) nuclear and missile programs and to reaffirm the U.S. – ROK Alliance’s resolve to maintain regional peace and stability.
The two military leaders shared assessments of yesterday’s DPRK missile launch and emphasized the importance of continued bilateral military cooperation in the face of the DPRK’s destabilizing behavior. The two leaders also supported further discussions on bilateral and trilateral military cooperation with Japan to respond to the DPRK threat. Gen. Milley reiterated that the U.S. commitment to the defense of the ROK remains ironclad.
The U.S. - ROK Alliance remains the lynchpin of peace, security, and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific region.
