WASHINGTON — Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Dave Butler provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley met with Japan Chief of Staff, Joint Staff Gen. Yoshihide Yoshida at the Pentagon to discuss evolving regional and global security challenges and expanding cooperation with allies and partners.
The two leaders discussed the current security environment in the Indo-Pacific region. Gen. Milley reaffirmed the United States’ ironclad commitment to the defense of Japan under Article V of the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty.
The U.S. - Japan Alliance remains the cornerstone of peace, security and stability in the region, facilitating a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
