WASHINGTON, D.C., — Joint Staff Spokesperson Navy Capt. Jereal Dorsey provided the following readout:

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr., met with Saudi Arabia Chief of General Staff Gen. Fayyad Al-Ruwaili yesterday at the Pentagon. This was their first meeting since Gen. Brown became Chairman last month.

The two leaders discussed the nations’ enduring bilateral defense partnership which has served as a cornerstone for regional stability and deterrence. They also discussed the current security environment in the Middle East, including the threat against U.S. forces throughout the region and the current situation in Gaza.

Gen. Brown reiterated U.S. emphasis on protection of civilians and unfettered access for delivery of humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza, as well as the importance of deterring any state or non-state actor from seeking to expand the conflict.

The U.S. and Saudi Arabia share a long-standing partnership and are committed to peace and security in the Middle East region.
