WASHINGTON, D.C. — Joint Staff Spokesperson Navy Capt. Jereal Dorsey provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr., met with Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Maj. Gen. Jone Kalouniwai today at the Pentagon.
The military leaders discussed opportunities to further strengthen the U.S.-Fiji bilateral relationship. Gen. Brown specifically expressed appreciation for Fiji’s participation in U.S.-led exercises and support for Fiji’s modernization initiatives. Additionally, Gen. Brown affirmed the U.S. stands ready to assist Fiji’s efforts to overcome security challenges to its exclusive economic zone.
Gen. Brown also thanked Maj. Gen. Kalouniwai for Fiji’s contribution of approximately 500 United Nations peacekeepers to the Middle East region.
Fiji has the largest military of the Pacific Island countries and plays a vital role in supporting peacekeeping worldwide and promoting security in the Indo-Pacific.
