Readout of Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and U.S. Ambassador to Poland Meeting with Polish Defence Leadership

General Christopher J. Mahoney, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Thomas Rose, U.S. Ambassador to Poland, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, as well as General Wiesław Kukuła, Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, during a visit to Poland, May 20, 2026.

The leaders conducted a comprehensive strategic dialogue to reinforce the deep and historical bilateral security partnership between the United States and Poland. They underscored both countries' commitment to a strong and enduring security relationship, emphasizing Poland’s critical role as a strategic partner in the region. General Mahoney highly commended both the civilian and military leadership for Poland's robust, exemplary commitment to collective defense, highlighted by its ambitious multi-year military modernization program.

The leaders focused on expanding military cooperation and accelerating investments across both nations' defense industrial bases to counter emerging, multi-domain threats. The meeting concluded with all parties reaffirming their mutual commitment to a resilient, unified transatlantic alliance prepared to deter regional threats and enhance security along the Eastern Flank.
