Readout: Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Addresses 2026 African Chiefs of Defense Conference

U.S. Marine Corps Gen. Christopher J. Mahoney, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, delivered a virtual keynote address from the Pentagon to launch the 2026 African Chiefs of Defense Conference (ACHOD) in Luanda, Angola. Mirroring the opening charge from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Gen. Mahoney urged the gathered senior military leaders to engage in frank, direct dialogue to address the highly interconnected, multi-domain, and transnational threats facing the continent. He emphasized that because modern adversaries—including violent extremist organizations and trans-national criminal organizations—operate across fluid borders, partner nations must move beyond polite formalities and actively build unified, connected response networks to safeguard regional stability and enable long-term economic prosperity.

October 2025 Strategic Seminar Series

America’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joint Staff directors, geographic and functional combatant command Commanders, and Senior Enlisted Advisors assembled in Virginia today for their semi-annual Strategic Seminar Series, led by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The leaders conducted deep dives and planning on global Command and Control and force composition, posture and readiness to ensure the United States maintains the ability to deliver lethal and decisive combat power against adversaries at the times and places of our choosing. The recommendations coming out of the Seminar will provide innovative options for the President, the Secretary of War, and Congress as they equip the Joint Force to dominate our enemies and protect the American people in simultaneous or protracted conflicts.

Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman hosts final day of fall Defense Senior Enlisted Leader Council

Senior Enlisted Leaders from all U.S. military branches gathered at Joint Base Andrews for the two-day Defense Senior Enlisted Leader Council (DSELC) on Sept. 24, 2024, to discuss key strategies impacting the Joint Force and military families. Led by Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Troy E. Black, discussions focused on readiness, modernization, and improving quality of life. Prominent leaders, including Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy James Honea, Sgt. Maj. of the Army Michael Weimer, Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force David Flosi, and Chief Master Sgt. of the Space Force John Bentivegna provided updates on force development and operational strategies. The conference highlighted joint integration, global security, and the vital role of family support, culminating in remarks by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. Air Force Gen. CQ Brown, Jr., who emphasized the strategic value of enlisted service members in winning future conflicts.
